~Plot Synopsis~
Valerie West, an artist's model, falls in love with Louis Neville, an aristocratic artist. His family,
scorning Valerie, elicits her promise that she won't marry him. Valerie promises Neville that she will
become his common-law wife on a certain date the next summer. Before that time arrives, the fiancé
of Neville's sister forces his attentions on Valerie, but she escapes to Neville's home and wins his
father's consent to their marriage.
