~Behind the Front~
~902-46: Wallace Beery & Raymond Hatton~
~Plot Synopsis~
Riff Swanson (Wallace Beery) has his pocket picked by light-fingered Shorty McGee (Raymond Hatton)
and chases him into the Bartlett-Cooper mansion, where Betty Bartlett-Cooper (Mary Brian) is recruiting
soldiers for the war in France. Betty persuades each of them in turn that she loves only him, and they both
enlist. They are sent to France and become buddies, distinguishing themselves not at all and spending
their time either in the guardhouse or on lunatic patrols in no man's land. After the war they return to the
United States in time to see their mutual sweetheart married to Percy Brown (Richard Arlen), the son of
the hardtack king.
