~Plot Synopsis~
Little Clarissa Leigh's older sister Ruth is loved by the boy next door, Paul Harding, but because Ruth
is only a schoolteacher, Paul's mother, a socially ambitious snob, forbids their marriage. Mrs. Harding
also disapproves of the friendship between her young daughter Effie and Clarissa, and is particularly
piqued when Clarissa outshines Effie in a roller skating contest. After Clarissa saves Effie from being
swept over a waterfall, however, Mrs. Harding relents and Paul marries Ruth.
