~Stars of the Photoplay, 1930~
Mary Philbin is one of the very few beauty contest winners who survived that glory to become a star.
It was, undoubtedly, her work in "The Merry Go Round," under the direction of Rupert Julian, who,
from the first day he saw Mary, believed in her future, that helped her achieve her high place and
gain renown. Miss Philbin was born in Chicago, in 1905, and educated there. She has brown hair and
hazel eyes, weighs 96 pounds and stands 5 feet, 2 inches in height. She made her talkie debut in
"The Shannons of Broadway."
