Madge Evans began her career as a child star and later took on roles as an ingenue, the beautiful
fiancee of her films' leading men.

In 1914, a 5-year-old Evans made her first film, "The Sign of the Cross." By the time she was 10 she had
made more than 30 films.

Evans, who had spent her teen years as a stage actress, signed with MGM and came to Hollywood in
1927.

Her best-known movies were "Dinner at Eight," "David Copperfield," "Pennies From Heaven," and
"What Every Woman Knows."

Her last major film was "The Thirteenth Chair" in 1937.

Evans left Hollywood when she married playwright Sidney Kingsley in 1939. Kingsley won the Pulitzer
Prize for best play by an American author in 1934 for "Men in White."
